Venice is fortunate to have an active PTSA

  • PTSA distributes food baskets for needy families in our community
  • Assists 10th District PTA Health Center and Clinic
  • Donates to the Venice High Student Body Fund
  • Manages concession booths at Venice High athletic events
  • Maintains the Student Welfare Fund
  • Coordinates the “Reflections” art contest and submits student entries for County, State and National consideration
  • Awards four $500 scholarships each year to seniors who participate in community service activities
The PTSA meets the first Thursday of the month at 6:00PM in the Student Cafeteria. Check the school calendar on this website as occasionally the meeting date changes due to holidays. We hope you will join us!

PTSA hosts a brunch in The Learning Garden.  We need help soliciting food, beverages, cooking some items in advance (as desired), set up, serving brunch and cleaning up.

Concession stands at football games

PTSA operates three concession stands at football games held at Venice High (home games).  We need help setting up the barbecue (cleaning the grill, filling the propane tanks in advance), stocking the PTSA store room, shopping for food items, coordinating pizza delivery the night of the game, setting up each concession stand and staffing volunteers to sell the food, replenish food and beverage items as needed

First Thursday of every month

PTSA meeting 6:00 pm in the Student cafeteria [1st meeting is usually held in the Library; sometimes the location changes due to other programs and events at the school]

Come and hear from school administrators about the happenings at the school.

PTSA membership drive

Coordinate distribution of membership flyers and envelopes to students, publicize membership drive, collect envelopes, prepare membership list, turn funds over to Treasurer, prepare and distribute individual membership cards

Add parents to Escipt , Albertsons and Ralphs community partners donations.  PTSA utilizes these funds to support the Library and literacy needs at the school

Volunteers to collect information from parents and community members to sign up for Escript and Ralphs and distribute information for Albertsons to add VHS to community partners program.

Prepare PTSA roster identifying elected parent representatives of each School Council and Committee

Obtain the name, telephone number and e-mail address of parent and community reps elected to SBM, Title I, School Site Council, ELAC and prepare roster, include school calendar, arrange for roster to be copied or printed and distributed to parents

Closer to the Thanksgiving holiday, work with Student leadership to collect canned food donations to assemble food baskets for needy families in our school area

Student leadership assists in collecting canned food items, sort and assemble food baskets for needy families, work with AP to identify families to receive food baskets – baskets assembled during Dec. before school takes winter holiday break

Founders Day Program

Start in January to designate worthy parents, community members, teachers, staff, administrators to honor at Founder’s Day program, send out invitations to past award recipients and other interested persons, arrange for light dinner to be held at March PTSA meeting, order certificates and pins from Tenth District PTSA for honorees.

Teacher Appreciation

Start in March to select item to order for Teacher Appreciation to be distributed to all teachers, staff and administrators during the first week of May; when gifts arrive, may need to wrap and add PTSA “thank you” to each gift before distribution.

Election of Officers for PTSA

Need volunteers to run of office:
President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Membership, Ways & Means, Hospitality

Select scholarship recipients – PTSA awards four $500 scholarships to seniors each year

Based on criteria determined by PTSA, review scholarship applications provided by Ann Keitel, select four recipients, prepare letters awarding scholarships; President attend Senior Awards Night to award scholarships

Graduation Reception

PTSA provides punch for the reception held immediately after graduation; purchase punch at Smart & Final and bring to cafeteria manager no later than week of graduation

Grad Nite for Seniors
usually held the evening of graduation

Grad Nite at Disneyland should be reserved by May/June of the prior school year; buses should have been reserved by February, confirm price of buses in May to set ticket price (Disneyland admission plus bus); have ticket vouchers prepared and printed, obtain list of eligible seniors from administrator; schedule date to sell Grad Nite tickets (during June 1st two weeks), obtain chaperones and coordinate with Tim Overbeck and John Beilock
